17-year-old Ree Dolly lives in rural Missouri with her mother and her younger siblings. S he hasn‘t seen her father Jessup since he has been arrested for drug dealing. When Ree finds out he has put the family‘s house up as collateral for his bail and disappeared then, she sets out to find him. Afraid of losing her home and having nowhere to go, Ree has to come face-to-face with the whole town whose residents all seem to have secrets. T he more she finds out about Jessup‘s disappearance, the more Ree endangers herself and she soon notices, that she can‘t trust anyone. An unadorned and deeply upsetting portrait of the provincial USA.
