Prizes & Competition

The heart of LUCAS is the festival’s competition. Every year, LUCAS selects the best films among a multitude of current children’s film productions worldwide. The festival is the German premiere for all of the competition films, which are dubbed from the original language into German directly in the cinema. The film program, which is structured according to the appropriate age group, guarantees that every child will find the right movie.

LUCAS Awards

The LUCAS Jury awards the two main prizes of the competition. The prize for Best Feature is worth 7,500 euros, whereas the Short Film Prize is worth 3,000 euros. The 3,000-euro Animated Short Film Prize has been awarded since 2010.

Don Quixote Prize

The jury of the International Federation of Film Societies (F.I.C.C.), staffed with three experts, has been awarding the Don Quixote Prize to one LUCAS competition film each year since 2004.

LUCAS Audience Award

Since 2010, LUCAS visitors can also take part in the decision: The LUCAS Audience Prize is awarded to the film that is most popular among festivalgoers.
