Christian Zipperle (Schmitz Katze Filmkollektiv) spoke during LUCAS panel 2011 “German film funding needs a real boost in sufficiency”. Benno Fürmann presented German children’s film production TOM SAWYER as World Premiere during LUCAS 2011 in Frankfurt. Now the Polish film production IN DARKNESS is one of five nominees as Best Foreign Film at the Academy Awards. SCHMIDTz KATZE FILMKOLLEKTIV was part of the production and Benno Fürmann acted.

Though this is not a children’s film LUCAS keeps its fingers crossed for the whole team of IN DARKNESS looking forward to the award ceremony on February 26th.

The festival will award the best short film and the best animated short film with 3.000€ each, as well as a feature length film (live action, animation or documentary) with 7.500€.

For the first time this year the festival will also award a youth film prize.

The screening format is 35mm, DCP or HD Cam, however for short films DigiBeta or Beta SP are eligible too.

The print as well as the pre-selection DVD screener need to be available with English or German subtitles.

The International Children’s Film Festival LUCAS will take place from the 2nd to the 9th of September 2012 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Submission is open till April 30th.

Last weekend the “Academy of Motion Picture Art and Sciences” screened 45 short films and 5 of these films will be nominated for the category “Best animated short”.

We are glad to inform you that the TrickStudio Production DUCK, DEATH AND TULIP is one of these 45 elected short films.

In 2010 this lovingly animated picture book story  about friendship and finally passing away opened the 34th Internationale Children’s Film Festival LUCAS together with other short films.

DUCK, DEATH AND TULIP produced by TrickStudio in 2010, was directed by Matthias Bruhn and is based on the book by Wolf Erlbruch. The 11-minute film was supported by the Film& Medienstiftung NRW, WDR and the FFA.

The final Oscar nominations will be released on January 24 2012. Fingers crossed!
